5. Karla and Bhaja cave exploration, 28 mins

Karla and Bhaja caves are ancient rock-cut Buddhist caves dating back to the 2nd century BCE. These ones’ represent some of the oldest examples within India, proving that Buddhism here has long existed.

Famous structures

The Karla Caves are famous for their grand chaitya griha (prayer hall), one of the largest in India. Within these caves, we can find detailed carvings, large pillars, and aged stupas reflecting excellence in architecture at that time period. Equally interesting but smaller ones would be Bhaja Caves, which have stupas including 22 rock-cut formations, viharas or monasteries, and ornate sculptures.

7. Astonishing views from Tiger’s Leap and Lion’s Point Lonavala, 35 Mins

Tiger's Leap

Tiger's Leap, also referred to as Tiger’s Point, is a clifftop with a sheer drop of over 650 metres, overlooking the valley beneath. The name came about due to the optical illusion it gives of a tiger jumping into the valley.

The fort was constructed by the Maratha empire in the 17th century, and it consists of two twin forts known as Shrivardhan and Manaranjan. It showcases the strategic military genius of the Marathas and also testifies to their architectural skills.

The trip up Rajmachi Fort is a thrilling experience, especially if you are an adventure lover. There are two main routes: one from Kondivade village that is more demanding than the easier route commencing from Lonavala. The distance covered in the Rajmachi Fort trek is about 13 km and could take approximately 4-5 hours to complete.

What to expect
