The casket rests in the mausoleum at the top for over 400 years now. There is an exposition every ten years to pay respect to the body of this Saint. The next exposition will be held in the year 2024. The celebration feast of St. Francis Xavier is held here every year on the 3rd of December. It was built in 1510 to mark and glorify the victory of the Portuguese over an invading Muslim army. Counted amongst the best churches in Goa, it has received the ‘Golden Rose’ from Venerable Pope Pius XII. This rose is kept in the casket of St. Francis Xavier.
