3. Seek blessings at Tarkeshwar Mahadev temple

Tarkeshwar Mahadev temple in Lansdowne is a holy place dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located at about 1800 meters, it’s surrounded by thick forests of cedar, pine, and deodar trees. With the red temple flags fluttering everywhere, it’s truly a beautiful sight to behold! We recommend sitting here for a while in peace and meditating. There’s also a dharamshala where you can stay to enjoy the peaceful vibes of the place.

Legend: There’s a legend associated with the name of this place. This is where a demon named Tarkasur once received a boon of immortality from Lord Shiva, except there was a catch. Only Shiva’s son could defeat him. Over time, Tarkasur became evil and started killing innocent people. That’s when Kartikeya, Shiva and Parvati’s son, stepped in and ended his reign of terror. But before dying, Tarkasur sought forgiveness, and in a rare act of grace, Lord Shiva attached his name to the temple. And that’s how it came to be called Tarkeshwar Mahadev!
