Why should anyone visit Kasauli? What makes this place so special that you would choose it over other destinations? Here are three simple reasons.

  1. First, Kasauli is really beautiful. It is surrounded by greenery, far from the chaos of the city, and has a peaceful atmosphere.
  2. Second, there are many attractions nearby, including Sunrise Point, churches, temples, museums, and numerous other spots.
  3. Third, it’s conveniently located close to Chandigarh. If you’re from Chandigarh, there’s a good chance you’ve visited at least once.

But if you’re not from Chandigarh (or if you are and haven't visited), then this blog is for you. In this guide, we’ll take you through the perfect two-day itinerary for exploring Kasauli.

Day 1

Stay

Once you arrive in Kasauli, the first thing to do is settle into your accommodation. We recommend booking your stay in advance at The Hosteller, Kasauli. After breakfast at The Hosteller’s cafe, you can start exploring the area. Take it slow and soak in the vibes.

Gilbert Trail

Begin your exploration at Gilbert Trail. If you’re a trekking enthusiast, this spot is a must-visit. No guide is needed just start walking, and you’ll stumble upon charming little details that invite you to pause and admire. Whether you’re a photographer, birdwatcher, or nature lover, you’ll enjoy your time here. Though it’s a short walk, you could easily spend 2-3 hours taking it all in.

Sunset Point

After wandering for a bit, have lunch and rest at the hostel, then head out to catch the sunset. After all, pahadon mai aaye toh sunset dekhna toh mandatory hai na. Located at the upper part of Mall Road, it’s the perfect way to end your day in Kasauli.

Christ’s Church

Christ church, formerly known as the Anglican church, is located on Lower Mall Road. Before visiting, here’s an intriguing story you should know. According to locals, British officers buried a time capsule near the church before leaving India in 1947. It may contain historical documents, though no official survey has been conducted. Doesn’t that sound fascinating?

Mall Road

You’ve done enough exploring for one day! Now it’s time to relax, shop, and enjoy delicious food at Mall Road. This is one of the busiest areas in Kasauli, filled with street vendors offering a variety of items like regional handicrafts, jewellery, wood and metalwork, shawls, woollen caps, and Tibetan carpets. Enjoy dinner here, choose a restaurant, or sample street food.

One thing we highly recommend is Bun Gulab Jamun. Never heard of it? Trust us, it’s delicious! For more information on this, check out our blog.

By now, you must be tired from all that wandering, right? Don’t worry; your stay will be very comfortable with us. You can also meet other travellers like yourself to plan your next day together. Here’s what you can do on your second day.

Day 2

Sunrise Point

Ab sunset dekha liya toh sunrise bhi dekhna banta hai. This spot, also known as Hawa Ghar for its pleasant breeze throughout the year, offers stunning views of Chandigarh and the surrounding areas.
Drive time from The Hosteller, Kasauli – 30 minutes

Dagshai Museum

There are only two jails in India that have been converted into museums. One is in Andaman, and this is the other. Built by the East India Company in 1869, this museum is for history buffs. One cell was designated for severe punishment and lacked ventilation or light. On the other hand, there is one VIP cell with luxurious features like a washroom. Mahatma Gandhi was once a prisoner here, and Nathuram Godse was the last prisoner in this jail.

After lunch, take a short rest in the hostel dorms to recharge because main trek toh abhi baki hai.

Visit Monkey Point

Monkey Point is the highest spot and a must-visit on your Kasauli itinerary. At the top, you’ll find a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. According to the Ramayana, when Lord Hanuman was returning from the Himalayas after fetching the Sanjivani Booty, one of his feet touched this hill, which is why the top is shaped like a foot. It takes about two hours to reach the top on foot. Bas Bandaron se bachke rehna.
